Fourth “Jesus” Dialog with Yumbe Imams and Sheihks

March 2
Our fourth gathering with Yumbe Muslim leaders.

Many thanks to all prayed for our dialog meeting with Imams and Sheikhs in Yumbe town. It was my fourth meeting with them (just one week earlier I had met with Kuru Imams and Sheikhs. Kuru is a sub-district of Yumbe) and, again, they were very hospitable and open to listen to me preach. They listened respectfully and I, in turn, listened respectfully to them. I was then allowed time to follow up with a few last comments. They heard a very clear presentation of the gospel and now I pray they will respond in faith. Please join in my prayer!

We are becoming closer friends. The men at my sides,  in the above picture and two in the first picture below, are two of the top leaders among the Sheikhs and Imams.

The leaders also happily received Bibles, Christian apologetic materials, reading glasses, and medicines. They promised to read their Bibles (Aringa,Arabic and English) and Christian reading materials.

Below are a number of pictures with comments highlighting our time together. Please pray for these Muslim leaders, others I have and have not met with yet, and all the Muslims in and around Yumbe District. Please also pray for us and our Christian brethren that we would be faithful and loving witnesses.

I was given an hour (which I use fully and then some) to give my lesson, Allah’s Korbani Plan of Salvation. Each Imam and Sheikh listened respectfully and intently. Charles did most of the interpreting. I sought to proclaim the gospel of grace biblically ,winsomely, and in love.

I used Surah 3:42-58 as a bridge to the Bible and the gospel. It was read in Arabic at the beginning of my message.
March 9
I studied much, prayed much, and preached my heart out, pleading in my heart and mind “Holy Spirit, come…reveal the full beauty of Jesus!”

March 10
I gave an invitation  to each Imam and Sheikh to trust alone in Isa’s sacrificial blood and his resurrection from from the dead for their salvation. What an honor to have this opportunity on the Saturday before Easter.

——————-

Next, I and the RAU team sat and listened respectfully to their chosen representatives’ responses and exhortations.

March 22
First, the County Khard spoke, drawing attention to Surah 3:55, where, in my message, I highlighted that it was Allah’s plan “to cause Isa to die“. He sought to explain why this was referring to a “future time”.
March 14
The leaders’ main spokesman had much to say on Islam’s understanding of Isa and his mission.
March 13
We listened carefully and took notes.  Each time I meet with these Imams and Sheikhs I come to understand them and Islam better. Lord wiling this can help me be a better witness.
March 11
I was then graciously given some time to respond. I closed by reading Luke 24:44-47, calling upon the Sheikhs and Imams to trust in Jesus alone for salvation. Then I prayed  aloud with uplifted hands and eyes open asking God’s blessing on them.
March 24
The other leading Khard (on the left) then gave some gracious and kind closing statements. Both of these Khards are coming soon to RAU for a visit. Everyone of us are committed to continuing these dialogs. Please intercede for us all!
March 8
After closing, we all had some more good fellowship. I count these men as friends and look forward to spending more time with them as well as other Imams and Sheikhs in neighboring communities. God, in His providence and grace, has opened a beautiful door (Revelation 3:8).

God Bless You!

Sharing God’s Grace Found in Messiah Jesus

Kuru Imams
Making new friends and sharing the gospel of grace

On March 19th we (Charles,Zorah, and I) had great meeting with a group of mostly Imams.Thank you to those who prayed!

You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.”

(2 Corinthians 1:11)

2 Corinthians 1:11 is a verse which often gives Carol and me great comfort and encouragement! Living as missionaries in the midst of a foreign culture, seeking to be a part of strengthening God’s people (2 Timothy 2:2) and making it our ambition to take the gospel to those with little or no access to it (Romans 15:20) would be fruitless without your intercession and support! Without your prayers we might just as well go back to Texas to “piddle around” and enjoy our family and friends in the latter years of our lives. “You” (our fellow ambassadors) “must help” (a necessity) “us” (your co-labors in the faith) “by prayer” (essential to foreign missions as well as all of life) “so that” (connecting words) “many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us” (result of faithful prayer) “through the prayers of many.” (the reason for thanksgiving and blessing).

Prayer is the jet fuel for missions!

The Lord’s presence was with us…we had a little over four hours together. Our meeting began with introductions and then we gave out worm and malaria medicines to everyone along with reading glasses to those who needed them and provided lunch. There were 27 men, most of them were Imams with a few Sheikhs and teachers. They were very hospitable, kind, and respectful. I can confidently say I have made some new friends.

Many received reading glasses

Everyone was given Aringa and Arabic New Testaments, ESV Global Study Bibles, Christian literature, 4 doses of de-worming medicines, and two doses of anti-malarial drugs. They were all very happy to receive each item.

I was given a long time to speak and I took advantage of it. Charles did an excellent job interpreting,co-worker Zorah took many pictures ( we asked and were given permission), and was a great help in distributing items. They listened intently and I could almost see the “wheels spinning” in their minds. It is very likely it was their first time  to hear the gospel of grace proclaimed.

Keep praying that the gospel message they heard and are taking home with them (Bibles and Christian literature) will bear fruit and they too will become worshipers of Jesus! They are all wanting to get together again and, Lord willing, we will. Next Saturday (26th) I will be with different group of 25 Imams and Sheikhs that I have met with previously on several occasions.

It is very exciting and humbling to be part of what the Lord is doing in the midst of this district and with their leaders. I covet your continual prayers for them all and all of us seeking to share the love of Jesus with them.

You all are a part of the gospel reaching these Imams, Sheikhs, and teachers.
God Bless You and Keep You!

Thank you all for all for your prayers and support. They are like fuel for our engine. We would be parked, rusting and not moving forward in God’s work for us without them. Thank you!

The extreme heat has not stopped us in our projects and ministry events. Lord willing, the rains and cooler temperatures will be here soon. Already, south of us and in central Uganda, the rains have begun. As Carol reported in the last newsletter, we are preparing the land for seeding the first season of crops: soybeans, rice, beans, and vegetables. The land has been plowed and I have harrowed it twice. Now we are working on ways to reduce erosion. When the rains come they are hard and heavy and most of the RAU land is on a slope. We are building terraces and using our mango and banana rows to create ways of slowing down the run-off.

Here we are creating berms to help prevent soil erosion. These grafted mangoes were planted in August ’15. This section of land will be planted in soybeans in the first growing season of the year and in upland rice the in second season (August)
The grafted mangoes are doing well and we look to add another 200 to the 500 already planted. We hope to increase the number of our matoke bananas as well. Lord willing, these will bring funds into the ministry as well as be a demonstration to the community of what can be done with fertile land in our area.
DSCF5934
The RAU grafted mangoes are starting out well. These are 2 years old
Emma is using the RAU land as well as RAU’s 2-hour, weekly gospel-centered agricultural program to empower the church and community through good agricultural practices. This week, he is holding a mango-grafting and growing seminar here at RAU for some members of a NGO from South Sudan. This week I will also  be on the radio for my one hour bi-weekly Bible Study.

Improvements on RAU’s four tukalus are continuing. With these improvements, living quarters for church leaders that are staying with us during leadership retreats will be more comfortable and  the tukalus will also make good dormitory rooms for the Bible school (which we greet from afar by faith: Hebrews 11:13). I am taking advantage of the dry weather to, little by little, gather materials for the Bible school’s first structure. Please continue to pray for our fleshing out of the vision of a Bible School here at RAU for training up shepherds – those God is raising up to lead His people.

Renovations: raising the wall, larger windows and doors, and a red iron sheet roof. Solar will also be added so that there can be light in each tukalu as well as outside for security.

This past Sunday we were at a newly planted church in Masa. This church, which is just across the Nile River from Obongi, is being led by a man raised up in Obongi Town Church and who was saved at one of our open air preaching events.  The high temperatures and added humidity from the Nile made us all sweat profusely. The heat could not squelch our joy, though! What an honor to be with a church that is just four months old which was birthed out the Obongi Town Church which is just a little over two years old itself. (In Nov. 2013, we sent Godfrey off to shepherd a new church planted there– Obongi Town Church.) It remains the only evangelical church in the town of 25,000 people with a mostly Muslim population.

Times have been difficult and we have faced many trials, but the Lord has been faithful as has Godfrey. The challenges are, by no means, over with. The good news is that the local Muslim leaders are now welcoming us  and keeping our Christian literature in their Mosque libraries. They are even more open to hear gospel preaching. Hard times and trials have strengthened Obongi Town Church and have made it a multiplying one!  We had the special treat of taking along our new friend, Kenia de  Moraes from Brazil, who works with YWAM in Arua.

New believers with a heart to learn and grow. Please pray and consider helping RAU train shepherds for new churches like this one that the Lord is birthing in our region of the West Nile.

This coming Saturday, Zorah, Charles and I will be meeting for the first time with a group of Muslims leaders just outside of Yumbe Town. According to Charles, it has the most zealous Muslims in the District, but this seems to be changing! We have had two open air preaching events along with one-on-one evangelism and a showing of the “Jesus” film in Aringa in this location. We have had only two confessions of faith in these outreaches but are not discouraged because there is a growing interest to hear more about Jesus and, thus, my invitation. The Lord is working deep within the hearts of the people. God’s work among Muslims is most often like cooking with slow cooker (like a crock pot) rather than a microwave. I will have opportunity to share the gospel, give Bibles and literature out along with medicines and reading glasses. We are looking to serve a meal  to top off our fellowship. Then, on the following Saturday, the 26th, we will have our fourth gathering and dialog with Yumbe Imams and Sheikhs. Please be in earnest prayer for these times that the Lord’s word would be made effectual in the hearts of the listeners!

Greatst Evil

Sharing the beauty of Messiah Jesus with Imams and Sheikhs

The outline of my message I will be sharing in these two meetings is at the bottom of this page. The attendants will primarily be Imams, Sheikhs, and other devout Muslims. I am seeking to “become all things to all people that by all means I might save some.  I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” (1 Cor. 9:22-23). The key, of course, is to be as culturally winsome as possible while not compromising the gospel message. For instance, I use the Qur’an as a bridge only to get to the Bible and use “Allah” when referring to “God”. In the accounts of Paul’s preaching in Acts we see his different approaches in the Athens market versus the Jewish synagogue. In both places he faithfully proclaims the gospel. I have found the article, “Should Christians Use Allah in Bible Translations?” helpful. Please be interceding for our time together. Interest in the gospel and the opportunity to sit down together in the Name of Jesus is unprecedented!

Pray:

“that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel…that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” (Ephesians 6:19-20)

Points for prayer and support:

  • The current crop planting and building projects. Resumption of Leadership retreats at RAU after tukalu renovations.
  • Completion of the Bible School Classrooms and start up costs: Estimated $35,000
  • Meetings with seeking Imams, Sheikhs, and others
  • New church plants in Masa, Obongi Gbari,Arapi,Duku, Oyo, Cinya, Lea and Oku. We still have in the works to reach two more villages in the  Metu Mountains which do not have one church in their midst.
  • Agricultural and gospel radio outreaches:  Anointing and continued funding
  • Continued good health for each member of the RAU team, as well as protection
  • Faithfulness in season and out of season.
I pray and hope that you will not grow weary in standing with us and praying us! Thank you!

Salaam Alekum!

Korbani  Plan of Salvation

Jacob Lee

As-Salaamu Alaikum! Greetings from my family, friends, and fellow followers of Messiah Jesus. My wife carol and I had a good time with them celebrating Christmas 2015 and the beginning of the New Year. It was hard to say good bye to them again. I love my family and it was very difficult to leave them and Texas USA!

Only a greater love can replace another love.

Jesus says, “As the Father (God) has sent me so I send you” (John 20:21) and “All authority has been given to me, THEREFORE GO and make disciples of me of all nations baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and I will always be with you”… “If you love me you will keep my commands (John 14:15) and “they are not a burden” (1 John 5:3). In Surah 3:50 Isa says “Fear Allah and obey me”.

I am here in the West Nile of Uganda moved by my greater love and obedience of Messiah Jesus and love for you. Surah 5:82 states that men like me are “nearest in affection to Muslims these who say ‘We are Christians’ because among these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world and are not arrogant”. My prayer to my Savior Isa is that I can show that love to you through my words and actions in way which bring honor to Isa.

I pray often for you that Isa-Kalim-ma-tullah=Isa the Word of Allah (Surah 3:39 & 4:171) and Isa-Ruhullah=the breath of Allah (4:171) “The Qur’an states; Isa is the Word (Kalim) and Spirit (Ruh) of Allah. No other person or prophet carries these titles”.  I pray Isa would reveal himself to you in dreams, visions and through the Injeel. In Matthew 17 and Revelation 1 the transfigured Isa became white as light with garments of white. My prayer is that you will see Isa in the beauty of his heavenly glory.

I am a follower of Messiah Isa who loves Muslims. I am also a worshiper of Messiah Isa who has been reading the Qur’an. I do not know Arabic so I have consulted 5-6 different English translations of Qur’an. (6) These English translations were done by Muslims. I did this with the aid of my computer.

As you know Isa is spoken about much in the Qur’an with great honor and respect. This is what I like most about the Qur’an. The literature which you have received from me has the common and different beliefs between Muslims and Christians on the person of Isa. Through reading these materials you will be helped to understand why I and many many others follow and worship Messiah Isa.

Leaders are readers and readers are leaders! You are a leader of your people!

Today I want to begin with a reading from your holy book the Qur’an and also look together at the Holy Scriptures of the Bible which the Qur’an says gives “guidance and light” (Surah 5:46). We see from the holy writings that Isa is very special, unique, and powerful. My intention is always to show respect for your holy book.

—–

In reading the Qur’an I have discovered an amazing truth that gives eternal life in heaven. It confirms what the Bible teaches. Let me have the following read and let us listen to: Surah Al-Imran 3:42-55  (see text in footnotes)

Overview:1. Maryan was chosen by Allah (2) for a special purpose. 2. Isa announced by angels. Maryan was a virgin (ayah 47) and Isa is the Messiah and highly esteemed (a. 44, 45) 3.Isa power is revealed in His miracles (a. 49) “heal blind, lepers, and raise the dead” 4. Isa knows the way to heaven (a.55) “make those who follow you above those who disbelieve

Isa is holy, has power over death, and knows the way to heaven

1-Isa is holy– 3:45-47

Isa, like Allah, is holy

We read that Isa came directly from Allah and did not have a earthly father

Adam also had no earthly father and he walked with Allah in the Garden of Eden but after he sinned he could not walk with Allah. Allah is 100% holy and nothing unholy can be in His presence

This means that if anyone wants to go to heaven to be with Allah he must be holy.

Isa also came from Allah however he remained holy and sinless, even with great temptations from Satan. Both the Qur’an and Bible teach this. Surah 19:19-“ I am bestowing on you (Mary) a sinless/pure (Zakia) son.”, Bible Hebrews 4:15-16 says For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One [Jesus] who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.” See also Injeel John 8:45-46

Both Quran and Bible teach Isa never killed anyone, he did not try to make himself rich, he was pure in thoughts and actions, and he did not ever have sexual relations with a woman.

Isa lived his entire life without ever committing one sin in thought, word, and deed.

Isa is holy

——

2-Isa has power over death

Many miracles-“heal blind and lepers”. In the Injeel many, many others are recorded

Raising the dead” There many accounts in Injeel, for example one man was dead for four days! See Injeel John 11.

The Bible states “Nowthere are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.” Injeel John 21:25

Physical death is the most feared enemy of man.

There are no other prophets who were given same power over death in both number and the manner of Isa. Isa is unique and one of a kind.

Isa says in the Injeel John 11:25 “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Isa has power over death

—–

3- Isa knows the way to heaven– Surah 3:55

He knows because he has traveled the straight path from Allah to earth and returned to Allah in heaven.

There is no doubt that Isa has gone to heaven. This is something both the Quran and Bible confirm.

If you wanted me to come to your home and you knew I need directions, you would be the best person to lead me to your home. Isa knows the way to heaven because he is there.

I am a sinful person. Though I have done many good things in my life, still I am a sinner and share in Adam’s curse.

I know that by my own power I can never become holy and get to be with Allah in heaven.

Out of all the prophets, Isa is the most capable and sure way of getting me to heaven

Even Muhammad says he does not know for sure what will happen to him or his followers. In Surah 46:9 he says “I am nothing new among the prophets what will happen to me and to my followers, I do not know, I am a plain warner.”

Isa knows the way to heaven and undoubtedly is there.

——

**Isa’s way to heaven= Korbani plan of salvation

Each year Muslims celebrate Korbani Eid, Jews Passover, and Christians Easter

I have read about Korbani Eid: A perfect sheep or ram is chosen and some places way in advance; a male elder places hands on the animal and an expert slits the throat.

Names of family, relatives, and close friends are stated. The Korban (sacrifice) is intended to atone for the names read and those who place their hands upon the animal

Act of Korban (sacrifice) is Allah’s perfect plan

We find pictures/examples of Korban in both the Quran and the Bible of the perfect Korban–Isa’s sacrificial death and resurrection. (Luke 24:45-47)

Surah 3:55 -Allah’s plan, and he is the “best planner”, “cause Isa to die”- “mutawaffika”. See also Isa’s statement in Surah 19:33. According to Arabic scholars the Arabic word “mutawaffika” used in 3:55, means “to kill, to cause to die, to terminate.” Surah 3:55 sates “Allah is the best planner

I have come to understand about why it was Allah’s plan to cause Isa to die and my hope and prayer is that you too will come to understand.

——

The First great Korban

Adam sinned and was removed from Allah’s presence

The first Korban happened when Allah killed an animal to provide clothing for Adam and Eve to cover their shame and nakedness.

An innocent animal had to die for them to be forgiven.

This act of Korban was an example and is a picture for us

Sin produces guilt, shame, death and breaks our relationship with Allah.

A sinful person cannot be in the presence of a holy Allah because of shame and uncleanness. Sin makes people unclean inside which in turn causes people’s action to be unclean.

The first Korban clearly shows that, instead of a guilty person receiving punishment, an innocent animal was substituted.

Allah’s mercy transfers the guilty person’s punishment to one who is innocent

In this way Allah demonstrates BOTH his mercy and his justice.

——–

The Second Great Korban

Allah directs Ibrahim to take his blessed son to the mountain (Surah 37:107)

Ibrahim is instructed to use his own son for the Korban. Ibrahim obeys.

On the mountain the son asks “Where is the animal. Ibrahim responds ‘God will provide’” Torah Genesis 22:7-8

In the last minute Allah provides a ram.

This story helps us understand Allah’s Korbani system

Allah tested Ibrahim’s love

A father’s great love AND ALSO an equal love of a son who is willing to be sacrificed is pictured and given as an example in this story.

——-

Allah’s Korban for Us

Allah is 100% holy and nothing unholy/unclean can come into his presence.

In order to restore mankind’s relationship with Allah all our sins must be removed. When our sins our cleansed our shame before Allah is removed.

The Korbani system is the picture revealed by Allah to teach us the penalty of sin and how our sins can be transferred to the one who is innocent.  Leviticus 17:11 and Hebrews 9: 19-22 teach that “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins

Only when our sins are transferred can we be like Adam in the Garden of Eden and in covenant relationship with Allah before Adam’s first sin of eating the forbidden fruit.

With our sins transferred through a blood sacrifice we are free to join Allah in heaven

This wonderful gift is fully revealed in the Holy Bible and pictured also in Surah 3:54-55.

It says rightfully that Allah is the “best planner and that he himself would cause Isa to die (“mutawaffika” ) ” Surah 3:55

The Arabic word used à mutawaffika (5) means “to kill, to cause to die, to terminate…Arabic scholars who translated the Holy Quran do agree “wafat” means death. Each and every scholar translated the word “wafat” as death in at least 20 different instances in their translations (of the Qur’an).”  Isa says himself in Surah 19:33, “Peace be upon me (Isa) the day I die, and the day I am raised up”. The same wording is used in Surah 19:15 so one can deduce that “die” in 19:33 is not some “future” death of Isa.

In Surah 4:157 is often used to say Isa did not die but “They (Jews) killed him not knowingly”Does this ayaa really say that Jesus did not die? Is that how most Muslim scholars themselves interpret it? What does, “They killed him not knowingly,” mean?

The fact of the matter is that there are different contradicting interpretations of this verse amongst Muslim scholars. There are various ways of interpreting Surah 4:157-158. One of them would be to remember the Jews’ attitude toward Christ. When Jesus was taken to the Roman governor, they did not believe He was the Messiah. They wanted to get rid of Him. By saying, “They killed him not knowingly,” the Qur’an simply states that they killed Jesus without knowing He was the Messiah.Another possible way to interpret the passage (Surah 4:157-158) is that the unbelieving Jews intended by the crucifixion of Jesus to shame Him in the eyes of the world. The death He would suffer would then destroy and invalidate His mission in the eyes of the world. However, the Jews failed to accomplish their goal. In fact, by the crucifixion, Jesus was glorified when God raised Him up to be with Him. He became the key figure of human history. Throughout the years countless people have turned to Jesus Christ. Jews, Arabs, Asians, Europeans and people from all other nationalities and classes of society have experienced the life changing power of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

Conclusion? It is not possible – despite what people usually think – to reach a definite conclusion based on this single and ambiguous verse. Muslim scholars are unsure about the end of the life of Jesus on earth. They disagree about whether He died or was raised alive to heaven without dying. Any conclusion from Surah 4:157-158 asserting that Jesus did not die involves speculation and theory. In fact, there are other verses in the Qur’an which say Jesus was killed

The Injeel agrees! The Jews did not have the authority to crucify Jesus; they were under Roman occupation and authority. The Holy Bible says: “From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised (Matthew 16:21,27:26-31; Mark 8:31,9:31,15:15-20; Luke 9:22,23:32-37;John 19:1718). [*4]

The Injeel tells us the rest of the story.

In John 3:16 the Injeel reveals that Allah’s Korbani of Isa would cover the sins of the world.

To accomplish this Allah provides the most holy, innocent and righteous sacrifice possible.

Isa the sinless Messiah, born of a virgin, came from heaven and returned to heaven alive is the only one who fits this description.

Allah chose Isa for Korban. It was Allah’s plan from the beginning.

YaYa (John the Baptist) in Injeel John 1:29 states “Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world

Allah transfers the sins of people to Isa. Those who put their trust in Isa alone for salvation are cleansed of sin by the blood of the lamb who is Isa.

Isa paid for sins with his own blood

The disciples of Isa knew this plan. “For by one man’s, Adam, disobedience many were made sinners so also by one man, Isa, obedience many will be made righteous.” Holy Bible Romans 5:19

After Isa ascended to heaven Isa’s disciples stopped the practice of Korban

They understood Allah’s plan that the Korban of Isa the Messiah was the last and greatest Korban

Allah’s reason for Korban is that he loves us.

What Allah did not allow Ibrahim to do to his son, he did!

Allah offers his own son as a sacrifice to show Allah’s great love for us

An animal does not know it is Korban but Isa did know.

Isa says in the Injeel, “Greater love has no one than this than to lay down his life for his friends” Injeel John 15:13

Isa knew he was to be used for Allah’s Korban and willingly laid down his life.

Isa says in the Injeel, “No one takes my life from me but I lay it down and I have power to take it up again. This command I have received from my Father (Allah)” John 10:18

In the Muslim Eid Al Adha an elder select a list of relatives to be forgiven. Allah too has selected and chosen those to receive forgiveness through Isa Korban

——-

Receive Allah’s Korban for You

You can do nothing to cleanse yourself of your sin but it can be cleansed by receiving Allah’s Korban—ISA

All who receive Allah’s gift of Isa and believe in his sacrifice for them can gain entrance into heaven.

“But to all who did receive him (Isa),who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” Injeel John 1:12-13

Obey Isa (See Surah 3:50) and put your complete trust in Himalone for salvation and you will be saved!

The Holy Bible calls this being “born again” or “born from above” in Injeel John 3:1-18:

“Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes (puts their complete trust in JL) in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:1-18 ESV)

*Today you, too, can become a follower of Isa by believing that Allah gave the Korban for you, substituting Isa for you. Stop now, hold your hands up before Allah, and humbly pray:

Allah, I am a sinner, I want your forgiveness for all my sins, past present and future. I receive your Korban and thank you Isa became my Korban and my Allah. I believe you are Holy and just and therefore must punish sin. But I also now believe you punished Isa by placing my sins on Him. He took your wrath for my sins. Through His death I have eternal life and forgiveness of my sins and new life in your son Isa. I also am sorry for living sinfully independent of you. I now live for Isa your son who is now my Allah, Savior and King. Amen.*

(8) Qur’an 3:42-58 ( http://www.masjidtucson.org/quran/frames/ch3.html ):

[3:42] The angels said, “O Mary, GOD has chosen you and purified you. He has chosen you from all the women.

[3:43] “O Mary, you shall submit to your Lord, and prostrate and bow down with those who bow down.”

[3:44] This is news from the past that we reveal to you. You were not there when they drew their raffles to select Mary’s guardian. You were not present when they argued with one another.

[3:45] The angels said, “O Mary, GOD gives you good news: a Word from Him whose name is ‘The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary.‘ He will be prominent in this life and in the Hereafter, and one of those closest to Me.

[3:46] “He will speak to the people from the crib, as well as an adult; he will be one of the righteous.”

[3:47] She said, “My Lord, how can I have a son, when no man has touched me?” He said, “GOD thus creates whatever He wills. To have anything done, He simply says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.

[3:48] “He will teach him the scripture, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel.”

[3:49] As a messenger to the Children of Israel: “I come to you with a sign from your Lord—I create for you from clay the shape of a bird, then I blow into it, and it becomes a live bird by GOD‘s leave. I restore vision to the blind, heal the leprous, and I revive the dead by GOD’s leave. I can tell you what you eat, and what you store in your homes. This should be a proof for you, if you are believers.

[3:50] “I confirm previous scripture—the Torah—and I revoke certain prohibitions imposed upon you. I come to you with sufficient proof from your Lord. Therefore, you shall observe GOD, and obey me (Jesus).

[3:51] “GOD is my Lord and your Lord;* you shall worship Him alone. This is the right path.”

[3:52] When Jesus sensed their disbelief, he said, “Who are my supporters towards GOD?” The disciples said, “We are GOD’s supporters; we believe in GOD, and bear witness that we are submitters.

[3:53] “Our Lord, we have believed in what You have sent down, and we have followed the messenger; count us among the witnesses.”

The Death of Jesus*

[3:54] They (Jews) plotted and schemed, but so did GOD, and GOD is the best schemer.

[3:55] Thus, GOD said, “O Jesus, I am terminating your life, raising you to Me, and ridding you of the disbelievers. I will exalt those who follow you above those who disbelieve, till the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is the ultimate destiny of all of you, then I will judge among you regarding your disputes.

[3:56] “As for those who disbelieve, I will commit them to painful retribution in this world, and in the Hereafter. They will have no helpers.”

[3:57] As for those who believe and lead a righteous life, He will fully recompense them. GOD does not love the unjust.

[3:58] These are the revelations that we recite to you, providing a message full of wisdom.

Reading about the transfiguration of Jesus in Matthew 17

We returned to RAU mid-February, escaping the political flurry (which began in earnest a few days after our leaving) in Kampala as Uganda prepared for its Presidential and local elections.

It was a blessing, indeed, to be able to be gone for 6 weeks with the peace of mind that RAU was still up and running because of faithful laborers and Onette Zorah at the helm, managing things very nicely in our absence. We are blessed to have trustworthy men and women to come alongside us here in the West Nile region of Northwestern Uganda.

This last month has been a season of “housekeeping.” Besides the usual clean-up after being gone a long time, there have been day-to-day ministry opportunities as people stop by for various needs.

Right now we have two major projects going on at RAU.

First, we have our builders here, “raising the roof” on the tukalus that the pastors and visitors use during the retreats. Not only will the roofs be raised up about 1.5 meters, but the grass thatching will be replaced with metal. This will extend the life of the roofs and prevent some of the leakage that is typical during rainy season (and the dust, chaff and insects) with the grass roofs. The higher ceilings with enlarge windows will also make them cooler. The builders will also make another pit latrine and cover over the previous one.

Raising the walls, adding windows , and metal roof for guests during pastors retreats. Also quarters for future students of the Bible School.

Second, we hired a large tractor from Moyo to come and plow up the fields in anticipation of rainy season when planting of crops can begin. Jacob is also outside now harrowing the ground after the plowing was done by the tractor. The plan is to plant soybeans, upland rice and vegetables in this first season. Another 200 grafted Mangoes will be added to the 500 that are doing well on the RAU land. A couple hundred matoke bananas will also be added to 200 in the ground. We are working hard so that RAU can raise ministry funds from the land as well as be a model for the community on how the fertile land of the area can be used to empower families, especially those in the church.

Getting ready for the first season planting

At the end of January, we completed the Agricultural Extension Pilot Program funded in partnership with M.A.R.S. (Doug Neel). It was such a tremendous success in “scratching where it itches” that we are compelled to continue the program and expand it in an exciting new way – through a weekly, two-hour, call-in radio show at TBS radio station in Moyo town. All of the communities within range of the station will have the expertise of Emma at their disposal. Not only will he teach on specific subjects relating to farming and livestock, but listeners may call in with their specific questions. This will happen every Friday evening from 8:30-10:30 pm. It is also provides winsome way of sharing the love of Jesus. The Kick-off program was last night and, from what we can tell, it was very happily received with much positive feedback.

.

In addition to the radio show, RAU will continue to be a demonstration plot for various agricultural projects which will be useful in teaching the leaders who come for retreats as well as interested parties within the local community. We will also continue to dedicate one day of our four-day church leadership retreats to agricultural training with the goal of 2 Timothy 2:2 being walked out in both the biblical and agricultural training.  There is more in the agriculture department that we would like to do which currently exceeds the budget we have for it.  Please consider prayerfully giving towards the Agricultural goals of RAU.

Jacob recently met up with his good friend, Charles, and a new and beloved believer in Yumbe. Soon after greeting one another with a Texas-sized bear hug, Jacob told him he had been praying for him almost everyday and that many others, too, were praying for him. The new believer then told Jacob and Charles that he had had a dream which he had not told anyone about. In the dream, Jacob was pointing a certain direction and when he (the new believer) looked in that direction he saw a man clothed in white with a bright shining face. He then woke up knowing that Jacob had been praying him. Jacob took him to Matt 17 and Rev. 1 (see caption picture) where there are recorded visions of Jesus and told him that the One whom he saw was Jesus. All were greatly encouraged.
Plans were made at this time for two separate meetings, one with Imams and Sheikhs, like the preceding 3 dialogues Jacob has done, and also a meeting in a Yumbe District town where many Muslims who are interested in knowing more about Jesus (Isa) may be able hear and ask questions about the teachings on Jesus. Both are in this month of March. Please be praying for Jacob and Charles, and for all who will attend the meetings, that there would be a peaceful and fruitful continuation of the dialogue that has already taken place and that eyes would be opened to the grace of God given through Jesus Christ.

Also coming up this month (March):
Once a location is decided upon, a second water well will be drilled in a Metu Mountain village. Currently they get their water from holes and streams.

The first well at Aya is complete

We will be traveling to Obongi to visit Godfrey and his church and to encourage them in their outreach into the community.

In Obongi with Godfrey and Aliga
Jacob is continuing the one hour, bi-weekly preaching on the Moyo TBS radio station.
Also, Pastor Tobious has identified two more remote villages in the Metu Mountains that have no church in them. Jacob hopes to visit these villages with the Gospel and to take part in establishing churches in each one. Once again, this process leaves a gaping hole of the need for discipleship. However, Pastor Tobious is already working on identifying some men who can travel or move to these places for the sake of shepherding new believers.

Two more villages without one church in the nearby Metu Mountains have been identified…Jesus says “GO”!

This brings us to the most dire need we see – that need which inspired the ministry of Reaching Africa’s Unreached in the first place – a Bible training school that will be more accessible and affordable for those who have been identified as potential leaders for church plants.

Availability and resources in the West Nile of Uganda have always been major obstacles to church leaders getting the kind of training needed to effectively lead church members and new believers. Most pastors and church leaders must be bi-vocational in order to support their families. This hardly leaves time or resources for pursuing training. With a short-term program, leaders could come during the week to receive training over a full variety of topics. Each topic would be covered over one week. By the end of three months it is our hope that the leaders will be more thoroughly equipped to lead their churches. The Bible School can also be an avenue of training for the many shepherds for the new churches which are being birthed.

2 Tim 2 2 poster

Our hope is to raise $35,000 to build a classroom with an attached Living room/Kitchen which will be used for a 3-month, intensive Pastoral training. These funds would also help us get set up and registered with the Ugandan government. Again, we ask for prayerful consideration in giving specifically towards this project.

As we consider, by faith, what the Lord will do in Yumbe District and what He has been doing in the Metu Mountain area, we cannot be satisfied to see new believers coming to faith in these various areas…we MUST pursue their growth in knowledge, grace and maturity. Ephesians 4: 11-16 says,

” And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

We thank each and every one of you for not growing weary in doing good, for praying, loving and sacrificing towards fruit-bearing which often can only be seen by faith.

We love and bless you all in Jesus’ Name!
