Carol and I have been back to RAU from our USA visit now for almost three weeks. As I ponder over all the Lord has enabled us do in the West Nile of Uganda, my heart returns with thankfulness to my King and to the many who have encouraged us, stood with us in prayer, and graciously given. Let me help you remember, too, so that you also may give thanks for the blessing granted us through your prayers and the prayers of many! You have been a vital part of the work God is doing in our gospel needy region of the world.

It has been 11 years since our first trip to Africa, 10+ years since I first ministered in the West Nile of Uganda where we now live, 7+ years since Reaching Africa’s Unreached was established, 6+ years since the RAU land was purchased and exactly 6 years since we cleared a spot in the thick bush and broke ground for the first building in which I am now sitting while writing to you. The facilities and land we now have are tremendous tools in proclaiming the gospel of grace. There is a photo history of the building progress at this site here.

It has now been 4+ years since we made our permanent move to Afoji just a mile off the Ugandan/South Sudan border. The Lord has watched over us, given us favor with believers and unbelievers, allowed us to host at RAU 23 multi-day church leader retreats, be a part in planting churches for seven remote Metu Mountain villages which previously had not one single church, provided countless opportunities for open air preaching and one on one witness by which many have been gloriously saved by grace through faith alone . Thousands of Bibles and solid biblical books have been   given to leaders. Hundred’s of Kindles loaded with solid biblical books and the Jesus film in numerous languages,via Delmar Hagar’s Study To be Approved , have also been given out out to church leaders. The Lord has opened the way for 15 dialogs on the topic “Who Is Jesus?” with leading Aringa tribe Khards, Sheikhs, and Imams have been organized and done. By God’s grace much has been accomplished for His glory these last 4+ years.

In Romans 2:4b we are told that one of the ways the Lord leads us to repentance is through His kindness….”…that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?…”. Often and wrongly so, mercy ministries and gospel preaching are subtly  pitted against each other. As ones created in God’s image, kindness ought to be active part of all we do, including proclamation of the gospel of grace. With that in mind and by God’s grace we have been able to give out medicines, help in surgeries and children’s education,assist people in going to clinics,distribute reading glasses, put in four bore holes (wells) in villages where they were getting their water from holes and streams, and empower church leaders ,Imams/Sheikhs as well as the community at large through agricultural training. Over and over again we have seen how these acts of love are being used to draw people to listen to the gospel of grace.

Sowing seeds of love and kindness should not be separated from preaching the gospel of sovereign grace but completely intertwined with it!

As we remember God’s grace in the past it encourages us that His grace is with us in the present and will also be with us in the future! With this encouragement we press on and build upon the foundations which have been laid. In the same vein we pray you all will continue to stand with us in prayer and support.

“You must also pray…” (1 Corinthians 1:11)

Upcoming August events for prayer:

1. I have an upcoming meeting in Obongi with Muslims from five different Mosques. The leading Sheikhs have given me an invitation  to meet their people. I will have opportunity to speak and will bring Bibles, Christian literature,reading glasses, Ag products and medicines. It has taken about three years to get to this level of friendship and trust with the Obongi Muslims. Pastor Godfrey’s welcoming heart has had a large part in this. Pastor Godfrey has been leading the church well in Obongi which RAU planted in December 2013.
2. We are seeking to plant a church in a trading center near Yumbe town. This center currently is around 99% Muslim.
3. Continued discipleship training in Metu Mountain seven village church plants.
4. Harvest of RAU soybean and grinding into meal for the Madi/Aringa community and South Sudanese refugees as the Lord enables.
5. Planting of second season crops…mostly upland rice.
6. Continued distribution of ESV Global Study Bibles to pastors in the South Sudanese Bidibidi refugee camp , now the largest in the world. Pray for peace in South Sudan, for the many refugees in Uganda, and those working with them.
7. Continual prayers for health and safety. Here is a report on a battle not long ago which took place just across the South Sudan border station of Jale which is just a couple miles from our home in Afoji. Uganda is doing a good job keep things peaceful, safe and secure in Uganda. Pray for Uganda in this challenging task.

Upcoming September events for prayer:

1. A six member team from Rocky Point Baptist Church Stephenville Texas will be arriving to RAU on the 2nd and leaving on the 18th. They will be teaching in many venues on the biblical view marriage and family. In these sessions the children will also receive ministry from the team members. Carol and I are very excited about them being here with us and sharing their gifting with the people we love and work with. Pray for them as they prepare to come our way!
2. A five member team with Reaching and Teaching International arrives on 19th and will be with us at RAU through the 27th. They will leading a group of pastors through session three of nine of “Hearts, Heads, and Hands”. I am very happy and excited about our partnership with Reaching and Teaching International!
